2012 salary negotiations to take place this autumn

This year's salary negotiations have been postponed until autumn. The decision was taken in theMain Liaison Committee (HSU) on the basis of a recommendation of an HSU subcommittee.

Salary negotiations are being postponed this year for purely practical reasons, in order to give both staff members (union representatives) and employers (managers) time to complete the process with  due attention and care.

All raises agreed on as a result of this year's negotiations will apply retroactively from 1 January 2012. The postponement of negotations will have no effect on when any raises that are agreed come into effect.

The senior management and HSU have approved new salary negotiation guidelines for both academic and technical/administrative staff at Aarhus University:

Psychological counselling scheme

AU has entered an agreement to provide psychological counselling for all the university's employees.  The scheme will give employees access to third-party psychological counselling in any situation which could affect the employee's capacity to work.

Employees can either contact their daily supervisor for a referral to counselling or contact the care provider anonymously.

New staff development session concept on the way

New guidelines for conducting all staff development sessions at AU are under development.

The new guidelines will be submitted to the liaison committees for consultation at the end of the year and will also be tested in a pilot project before the final version is sent to HSU and the senior management team for approval.

A draft version of the material will be available for trial in the fourth quarter of 2012. The experiences gained from this pilot process will be incorporated into the final version. HR partners will be responsible for distributing the guidelines and advising managers on holding staff development sessions. They will also offer training in holding MUS.

The new MUS guidelines include: A guide to staff development sessions, a checklist for managers, a guide to interview questions and a form for registering any agreements made in the course of the session.

Starting in 2013, annual staff development sessions will take place in the autumn.

Uniform guidelines in the "Staff ABC"

HSU has agreed on new uniform guidelines for AU staff on the background of a recommendation from an HSU subcommittee.

The guidelines come into force immediately. However, the new rules on paid holidays and personal days will first come into effect as of 1 January 2013.

The new guidelines will apply to such areas as

  • travel allowances and driver authorisation
  • paid holidays
  • personal days

Improvements to the office trainee programme

The AU HR Staff Development Unit is working on new initiatives to improve the administration of the office trainee programme at AU. The following measures have been adopted thus far:

  • A central trainee coordinator function will be established under AU HR, and AU HR will take the initiative to establish an AU-wide trainee committee. Members will be appointed by HSU.
  • The trainee committee will include union representatives, trainee supervisors, a representative from senior management and the trainee coordinator.
The role of the trainee committee will be to establish general guidelines, develop a trainee strategy, and structure the recruitment process, including establishing guidelines for trainee position advertisements.
