Aarhus University has now submitted more than 3,600 pages of documentation to the Danish Accreditation Institution as part of its mission to achieve institutional accreditation.
The documentation will form the basis of the second of two visits by the expert panel which will deliver its final recommendation to the Danish Accreditation Institution. The visit will take place in the week commencing 31 October and lasts five days.
Pro-rector Berit Eika is in charge of the institutional accreditation work which is being coordinated by the Education Committee.
Last week, the Danish Ministry of Culture announced that Denmark’s two biggest national and research libraries – the State and University Library and the Royal Library – are to be merged into a single organisation under the name of National Library of Denmark. The merger takes effect on 1 January 2017.
The current director of the State and University Library, Svend Larsen, will head the new library, which will still be run from the existing library premises in Aarhus and Copenhagen.
Today, the State and University Library works closely with Aarhus University under the auspices of AU Library, which is an umbrella term for all the libraries at Aarhus University and the State and University Library’s university functions. The joint provision of library services to both students and staff at Aarhus University will also continue in future.
On Monday, Brian Bech Nielsen embarked on his annual round of visits to all the university’s departments and schools. The aim is to discuss the university’s development, and to have a dialogue with the employees about visions and challenges. At the meetings, plenty of time has been allocated for comments and questions.
The first meeting took place at the School of Culture and Society on Monday 19 September. The visits are expected to be completed by 1 November.
Jesper Langergaard has been appointed new secretary general of Universities Denmark and takes up his position on 15 October 2016. Jesper Langergaard, 49, holds an MSc in Political Science from Aarhus University and comes from a position as head of press affairs at the Danish Ministry of Higher Education and Science.
In an article in the Jyllands-Posten newspaper on Sunday 18 September, Allan Flyvbjerg, dean at Health, highlighted the importance for the research environments of investors who are willing to take risks and invest in the development of new treatments. At the same time, he urged the universities to cast aside any lingering concerns they may have about the pharmaceutical industry.
Aarhus University is inviting colleagues and business partners to a farewell reception for Allan Flyvbjerg, who is stepping down as dean at Health at the end of September 2016. The reception will be held on 30 September at 14:00-16:00 in Stakladen. We hope to see a good turnout.
