Annual celebration opened for registration on 7 August
It will soon be time for the university’s annual celebration. On Monday 7 August, registration opened for employees, who will all be receiving an invitation in their inbox.
The annual celebration will be held on 15 September with a ceremony in the Main Hall, which will include the presentation of prizes and awards, the announcement of this year’s distinguished alum, the conferral of honorary doctorates, and speeches and music, followed by refreshments in the Ambulatory.
In the evening, there will be a concert at Concert Hall Aarhus, where the performers include Shaka Loveless, Mads Langer, Dicte, Peter Sommer and Anne Dorte Michelsen. Per Chr. Frost and Peter Vuust will be conducting, and the evening will be compèred by Master Fatman. After the concert, snacks and wine will be served for all guests in the foyer.
The deadline for registration is 22 August for both events, and it is possible to bring a companion. Seats in the Main Hall for the afternoon event and seats in the main auditorium at Concert Hall Aarhus in the evening will be allocated according to the number of employees at the four faculties and in the administration, so everyone has an equal chance of getting a seat. The ticket lottery will be conducted by KongresKompagniet, and you will be notified by the middle of week 36 (4–10 September).
This year, tickets and admission cards will be sent electronically. In other words, you will need to print out the tickets and admission cards and bring them with you on the day. The tickets/cards will be sent out with the email informing you of the outcome of the ticket lottery.
More applicants with high marks
7,300 applicants have been offered a student place at Aarhus University. The number of applicants with high marks has increased, which is a promising indication of the quality of the new students’ future academic performance.
It is also worth noting the significant increase in the number of applicants to the engineering, computer science and mathematics degree programmes. On the engineering degree programmes alone, 100 more student places have been offered. Furthermore, the university’s new international business communication programmes have got off to a good start. The distribution of student places is thus now in conformity with the university’s strategic focus areas.
A few places are still available on a number of degree programmes. The initial deadline for applications is 6 August. If places are still available after the deadline, applications will continue to be processed as they are received.

Participate in this year’s inspiration day on education
The Education Committee is inviting employees to attend an inspiration day on education on 14 September – this year with particular focus on quality, drop-out rates and progress toward degree. The event is aimed at all teaching staff, directors of studies, heads of degree programmes, study board members and other interested parties. The speakers include Anna Parpala, who directs a Finnish quality assurance system at the University of Helsinki, and Bjarke Hartkopf, who is a special consultant with EVA. There will also be a presentation of AU projects which received strategic funding in 2016.
The deadline for registration is 1 September.
CI cooperation agreement in place
The cooperation agreement on the new independent journalism unit – Constructive Institute (CI) – has now been signed. The agreement describes the framework for the partnership, and was been discussed at the faculties prior to its approval by the senior management team. CI opens officially on 1 September.

Denmark’s four deans of health agree on the need to increase admissions to the degree programme in medicine
Together with the deans of the faculties of health at the University of Copenhagen, the University of Southern Denmark and Aalborg University, Lars Bo Nielsen , dean of the Faculty of Health at Aarhus University, comments on the media stories this summer about the shortage of doctors in general practice. In an article in Altinget on 31 July, they jointly made it clear that expanding the number of admissions to medical programmes in one place should not impact universities elsewhere.
