Airline tickets

Flying consumes large amounts of energy, which converts to CO2 and other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, and air travel is a significant contributor to global climate change.

In order to enable the university to calculate our CO2 emissions for air travel accurately for the entire university, we encourage everyone to use CWT when booking airline tickets.

Consider the following before booking a flight for work purposes:

  • Is your trip absolutely necessary? Could you replace it with a virtual meeting or plan a meeting venue closer to your location?
  • When travelling by plane, you must choose direct flights whenever possible, since CO2 emissions are particularly high when a plane takes off and lands.

CWT

Aarhus University has entered into an agreement with Carlson Wagonlit Travel (CWT) on booking work-related trips.

We encourage everyone to use CWT when booking trips, as they can extract data on CO2 emissions related to your journey. We can use this data monitor whether our climate action is having the desired effect.

Booking with the airline

If CWT cannot help you book a flight, you should book your flight directly with the airline and not via a search engine such as flybillet.dk.

Compensation for flight delays

In certain situations, airline companies pay compensation in the event of flight delays.

This compensation is credited to the passenger, i.e. the AU employee.

However, in accordance with the Agreement on Official Travel (tjenesterejseaftalen), Aarhus University must still include the extended travel time resulting from the delay in the employee’s travel time, and it must also incur any additional expenses connected to the flight delay.

Bonus points

Bonus points earned in connection with work-related trips financed by AU (either through ordinary or external funds) belong to Aarhus University and must be used in connection with future work-related trips.
