Applies to all employees at Aarhus University who are covered by the Circular on Leave for Family Reasons concluded between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the central organizations representing civil servants, civil servant-like employees, and employees covered by collective agreements. These organizations are:
An employee who, under the Danish Act on Entitlement to Maternity/Paternity Benefits and Leave, is entitled to benefits in connection with caring for a seriously ill child under the age of 18 is, during the same period, entitled to full or partial leave with pay. A condition for this entitlement is that the child’s illness is assessed as requiring hospitalization or a similar institutional stay for 12 days or more. Treatment or care provided at home may be considered equivalent to hospitalization if the child’s medical needs justify it. The requirement of an illness period of 12 days or more does not apply in cases of hospitalization involving children of single parents.
At Aarhus University, the general rule is that employees are granted one month of paid leave per child per calendar year.
In addition, the University may grant unpaid leave during the period in which benefits are payable. Periods of full or partial leave, whether paid or unpaid, count in full toward salary seniority, and normal pension contributions continue to be paid.
The University is entitled to reimbursement of the public benefits (dagpenge) when the employee is on paid leave.
