Welcome to the Research Data Office
Managing research data has become increasingly complex due to growing internal and external requirements. AU has therefore consolidated various areas of expertise under the Research Data Office to make it easier to support researchers with the increasing complexity associated with administering research data.

The Research Data Office is a new part of AU Research. The aim is to provide unified and standardised guidance under one roof. The office consists of the former Data Protection Unit, the Open Science coordinator, data management advisory services, and the URIS and export control support.
The office also facilitates contact from researchers to both the DeiC and the external Data Protection Office, and also serves as the secretariat for the Research Ethics Committee.
Ensuring both openness and research data protection
As can be seen from the above, the office has functions related to both openness and to the increased protection of certain types of research data. This contradiction was a key part of the reason for establishing the office, as was the desire to standardise advice/support across different areas.
The office provides support in cases where the local GDPR coordinator or other support functions need consultation. In selected areas, such as applications for the use of HPC resources and applications to the Data Protection Agency, the office provides guidance to researchers.
