The Academic Council is responsible for ensuring co-determination and involvement in academic matters in a broad sense, including, among other things, the internal allocation of funding within the main academic areas, as well as issues related to research, talent development, education, and knowledge exchange. Furthermore, the Council participates in the composition of committees that assess applicants for academic positions and award PhD and doctoral degrees. The Academic Council can also issue statements to the Rector.
The Academic Council is composed of representatives from the academic staff (VIP), who are elected for four years, employed PhD students, who are elected for two years, representatives of the student body, who are elected for one year (STUD), and representatives of the technical-administrative staff (TAP, observer status). The Academic Council elects a chairman from among its members.
