WPA follow-up a good step closer

All four main academic areas and AU Administration are now ready to launch targeted initiatives to improve the psychological work environment at Aarhus University.

The measures to be taken by the individual main academic areas and AU Administration are described in the general action plans which have just been completed for Business and Social Sciences, Arts, Health and AU Administration. Science and Technology launched its workplace assessment action plan before the summer.

Based on input from all parts of the organisation and locally prepared action plans, the action plans for the main academic areas and the corresponding action plan for AU Administration bring together the initiatives and solutions of relevance to the entire area.

Serious and constructive efforts have been made at all organisational levels to come up with solutions and initiatives which can reduce stress for the individual employee, or which can improve verbal communication in a department if that is what is needed. There are local differences in the extent to which various issues need to be addressed.

The action plans will be considered by the Main Occupational Health and Safety Committee (HAMU) and the Main Liaison Committee (HSU) on 14 November.

The psychological workplace assessment (WPA) was published on 20 February.

New accreditation visit to BSS

The School of Business and Social Sciences has decided to request a new visit from the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) with a view to obtaining EQUIS accreditation.

In spite of a positive report from the peer review team, BSS was initially refused accreditation earlier in the year. The main academic area's management has now asked for a re-examination, which will take place by September 2014 at the latest.

However, the School of Business and Social Sciences will retain its EQUIS accreditation at least until the new accreditation visit from the EFMD.

AU agricultural research ranked no. 16 worldwide

Aarhus University now ranks number 86 on the National Taiwan University Ranking (NTU) which, as the fifth major university ranking, closes the ranking season. This is four places lower than last year, but overall Aarhus University has moved 46 places up since the ranking was first published in 2007.

In the agricultural field rankings, AU stands out in particular by being placed no. 16 worldwide, while clinical medicine also did well at no. 70.

The NTU ranking looks exclusively at research output and impact and, unlike the Shanghai ranking for example, only includes results from the past decade.

American universities occupy eight of the top ten places on the list, which is topped by Harvard University.
