Continuing the work begun two years ago by a smaller group in which five sections of the DCS and DAC were represented, this new unit will promote initiatives within the broad field of film and audiovisual studies.

Functioning both as a forum for the development of individual research Projects and as a platform for more coordinated initiatives seeking research funding, producing publications, providing feedback, inspiration, etc., this unit will host 2 or 3 joint meetings or seminars per semester, perhaps all focused on a single topic.

This semester a subgroup has singled out the corporate film as a subject for further research. This June the unit will host a seminar entitled Incorporating Film with the participation of Patrick Vonderau, Stockholm.

Many other topics might be considered for subsequent semesters, including for example:

• The archiving of audiovisual products or better use of existing archives

•Traditional film genres in new media

•Audiovisual forms of research or research dissemination, such as practice-based studies

•Film on the global scene and World Cinema

We invite all interested colleagues to participate in an informal meeting.

The meeting will consist of a presentation of the unit and participants, plus two short presentations of current research by Peter Ole Pedersen and Mads Anders Baggesgaard.

There will be sandwiches and drinks.

If you would like to attend the meeting or are interested in participating in the unit but are unable to attend, please let us know by sending a brief mail to madsbaggesgaard@dac.au.dk
