Guide to using Microsoft Copilot

On this page, you will find a guide to using the generative artificial intelligence (GAI) tool Microsoft Copilot.

All AU employees have access to the basic enterprise version of Microsoft Copilot via their AU login. This version of Microsoft Copilot is secure, which means that it does not save or train itself on the data you put into the model. But please be aware that you may not put confidential or sensitive data into GAI tools (see an overview of the different types of data).

NB: There is more than one version of Copilot. As a member of staff at AU, you generally have access to the basic enterprise version of Microsoft Copilot, which has this logo:

An additional license is required to access the ‘Copilot for Microsoft 365’ version, which has additional features. It is not yet possible to purchase a license for Microsoft 365 Copilot because AU IT is currently assessing the data security of this version.

How to find and sign in to Copilot

1. Open your browser and type 'copilot.microsoft.com'.

2. Sign in using your AU ID.

Now you’re ready to prompt Copilot to generate text or images.

You can also adjust the conversational style so that the output you receive is more creative, balanced or precise.

Microsoft Edge

If you use the Microsoft Edge browser, you can access Copilot via the icon in the top-right corner of your browser window:
