When I graduated in 1980, there were no high school teaching jobs left. What then? I had never wanted that anyway, but still...
How were my skills, interests, and education utilized in my professional life? What did it mean to have a general education: Being an academic - the specialization, thoroughness, and academic virtues. How did my subjects fade and yet resonate in my work as a private business consultant?

• How (un)important a subject-specific education needs to be for career choice - and yet plays a significant role in what one later focuses on
