New: Automatic registration of PhD theses in Pure
Now metadata on AU theses will automatically be registered in Pure, giving us a complete overview of PhD titles and authors from 2020 onwards. With this new initiative, we ensure the visibility of the latest research from Aarhus University.
With this new initiative, we ensure the visibility of the latest research from Aarhus University. At the same time, we are replacing a previously fragmented and manual effort across AU with an automated and streamlined solution that ensures a complete data overview.
The thesis will be displayed on the author's and supervisor's profiles
The registration is done by Pure obtaining data on awarded degrees from the PhD schools' system and making them visible on the author's and supervisor's Pure profiles and personal websites.
The data displayed is title, author, department, date (for awarded degree) and internal AU supervisors.
However, only metadata about the thesis is registered in Pure. The thesis itself (PDF) is not automatically added, but it can subsequently be done manually by the author themselves, by a secretary or by the Pure team, if the author wishes and has the right to publish. The same applies to additional information such as any links, external supervisors and related Pure content (e.g. PhD project, other publications, etc.).
Automation ensures good data and reduces manual work
The new practice means that the PhD student will not have to register their thesis themselves in the future. Any duplicates will be handled on an ongoing basis, just as spelling errors and other corrections can be made manually.
For us to be able to sequence the theses for reporting purposes, we have created a PhD book series in Pure for each department. It is not an official book series with an ISSN number, but it can be used by Pure reporters in overviews for the departments.
Our guidelines are updated, and if you have any questions about the new practice, you are, as always, welcome to contact pure@au.dk
