Researchers can now sign up for the Festival of Research

Once again, Aarhus University is participating in the Festival of Research under the theme FASCINATING RESEARCH. It is taking place on 27 April 2017 in Stakladen at Aarhus University, and researchers are now able to sign up – either with a speed lecture or a stand. Previous participants say that it is both challenging and fun having to communicate their research to a broad audience. The deadline for registration is 1 March.

It is also possible to register a lecture for the separate ‘Book a Researcher’ initiative, which gives everyone in Denmark the opportunity to be visited free of charge by a researcher in week 17. The deadline is 24 February.


Johnny Laursen: Language is the gateway to the world

In an article published in Politiken on 3 February, Dean at Arts Johnny Laursen wrote about the crisis that language and area studies currently find themselves in. He mentions how AU has merged the European languages in a single department as a way of maintaining a strong knowledge environment and strengthening collaboration with business and industry. He also mentions the unexploited potential in strengthening collaboration between universities and university colleges, for instance by adding extra competences to the foreign language courses on the teacher education degree with modules at university level.


Future dean at Health answers questions

Employees and students have been able to submit questions to the forthcoming dean at Health, Professor Lars Bo Nielsen, who is taking up his position on 1 April. Danish Reformation research being strengthened

Last Friday, 10 February, a new centre was inaugurated at Aarhus University which is designed to strengthen Danish research into the Reformation and shed light on how the Lutheran mentality has influenced society and culture. The name of the new centre is LUMEN – an abbreviation of LUtheran MENtality – and stems from the cross-faculty network of the same name. LUMEN is part of the School of Culture and Society, and has received start-up funding of DKK 100,000. The quincentenary of the Reformation in 2017 puts extra focus on the main task of the centre.


Professor Poul Nissen receives Novo Nordisk Prize 2017

Professor Poul Nissen from Aarhus University is being awarded the Novo Nordisk Prize 2017 for his groundbreaking studies into the structure and function of ion pumps. The prize is awarded annually and totals DKK 3 million. 


AU professor appointed chairman of new complaints board

The Danish Minister for Industry, Business and Financial Affairs, Brian Mikkelsen, has appointed Birgitte Egelund Olsen, Professor of environmental law at Aarhus BSS, chair of the new complaints board for the environment and food (Miljø- og Fødevareklagenævn).
