FAQ

Here you will find answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about the Ta’Med app and the carpooling club at AU.

What is carpooling?

Carpooling is when people drive together, for example, on the way to work. When commuters carpool, they share the cost of electricity or petrol and also reduce their CO2 emissions.

What is the carpooling club at AU?

The carpooling club at AU is a group in the Ta’Med app for employees and students at AU, but, if you wish, you can also widen your search to include other drivers who are going your way.

How long with the AU carpooling club exist?

It has been decided that Aarhus University will test the Ta’Med app for a few years and then evaluate how effective it is and how widely it is used.

How much does it cost to carpool using the app?

The Ta’Med app is free, but the driver is able to charge an amount that covers the passenger's use of petrol or electricity (DKK 0.70 per kilometre). This amount is calculated automatically by the app and cannot be regulated by the user. Please be aware that, if you charge for the tip, you will not be able to claim mileage allowance for the same journey.

Why is it important that I verify my trip as a passenger?

Your trip will only be included in yours and AU’s combined carpooling statistics if you verify your trip. Verifying your trip also means that the driver can get paid and that you can take part in the app’s reward scheme, which offers good prizes.

What do I do if the driver cancels the trip?

If the driver cancels at the last minutes (up to 30 minutes before you were due to leave), the Federation of Danish Motorists (DFM), who owns the app, will cover taxi expenses of up to DKK 300. Read the terms of insurance and agreement here.

Do I need to use Ta’Med every day?

No, it is of course up to you how often or on which days you wish to carpool. Perhaps start with a fixed carpooling day every week so that sharing lifts gradually becomes part of your weekly routine.

How do I find someone to car share with?

In the app, you can create a user profile in two minutes and find somebody who drives the same route as you every day. It is easy to connect with other drivers from AU or from other workplaces nearby.

Does the app comply with GDPR rules?

FDM maintain the app and ensure that it complies with GDPR rules.

Is the app available in other languages?

The app is available in Danish, English and French. The language of the app is determined by the language on your phone.

Is it safe to carpool?

FDM has designed the app so that it is safe to share lifts. The ratings system along with the verification of users’ mobile phone numbers and company details means that you can use the app with confidence.
