Danish National Research Foundation - Centers of Excellence

Eligibility: The objective of the CoE program is to strengthen Danish fundamental research by providing the best possible working conditions and organizational set-up for selected top researchers. Centers can be established within and across all scientific fields. The foundation welcomes outstanding research of a high international caliber that may be described as ambitious, highly creative, original, scientifically daring, and potentially groundbreaking. Excellence is a key criterion when assessing proposals for new centers. Center leaders are typically professors with comprehensive leadership experience and international recognition.
Grant size: 30 to 80 million DKK incl. overhead for a funding period of six years, with the possibility of a four-year extension.
Next deadline: September 11, 2026 (outline proposals); April 1, 2027 (full applications).

The AU Research Support Office (RSO) will designate a Research funding advisor to each applicant. The RSO offers the following support:

  • Individual start-up meeting with Research funding advisor.
  • Feedback and constructive criticism on the Outline proposal and the Full Application.
  • Budget support for both phases of the application.
  • Bibliometric analysis.
  • Advice and guidance on formalities and requirements.
  • Advice and Guidance on the consultation procedure (‘partshøring’).
  • Mock/training interviews for applicants who are invited to DNRF interviews.
