Career development at AU
It is important to us that employees thrive and are able to live up to their potential while at Aarhus University. It is just as important to us that employees who want to take a position at another university or within another industry have a smooth transition.
Career development is a process in which employees continuously take stock of their own learning and development and where they develop their competencies and knowledge so they are able to achieve specific academic, personal or career-related goals. Either within Aarhus University or outside it.
The career development dialogue as a first step
Each employee is of course the primary driver behind their own career development. However, they must receive support from their manager and the organisation itself to help clarify any opportunities and limitations via a career development dialogue, for example.
Career development dialogues and Staff development dialogues
As SDDs are also opportunities to discuss career development, as a manager you may choose to integrate the two into an extended dialogue.
Career development at Aarhus University is about more than just taking the next step up the career ladder. As we see it, career development is a process where you as an employee continuously consider what your next career step should be and how it can be achieved. The employee has the primary responsibility for his/her own career development and must be deliberate and proactive in relation to identifying development opportunities.
It is the responsibility of managers and supervisors to ensure that employees are motivated, thriving and meeting their potential to the benefit of both AU and themselves.
