EU Missions are a new way to bring concrete solutions to some of our greatest challenges. They have ambitious goals and will deliver concrete results by 2030. Each mission operates as a portfolio of actions – such as research projects, policy measures or even legislative initiatives - to achieve a measurable goal that could not be achieved through individual actions.

There are currently 5 EU Missions:

1. Adaptation to Climate Change: support at least 150 European regions and communities to become climate resilient by 2030
2. Cancer: working with Europe's Beating Cancer Plan to improve the lives of more than 3 million people by 2030 through prevention, cure and solutions to live longer and better
3. Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030
4. 100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities by 2030
5. A Soil Deal for Europe: 100 living labs and lighthouses to lead the transition towards healthy soils by 2030

Funding  supports thematically defined, collaborative and impact-focused research and innovation. The missions have their own work programme with calls for each individual mission. The funding action types are the same as in the rest of Horizon Europe (RIA, IA & CSA).

Rules of participation, evaluation, and ranking of applications will generally follow the rules of Horizon Europe. Eligible activities are described in the call conditions. Projects must moreover comply with EU policy interests and priorities (environment, social, security, industrial policy, etc.).

Research and Innovation Actions (RIAs) and Innovation Actions (IAs) require beneficiaries from at least three legal entities independent of each other and established in different countries. Furthermore, the following conditions must be observed:

• at least one independent legal entity established in a Member State; and
• at least two other independent legal entities, each established in different Member States or Associated Countries.

Applications for ‘Coordination and Support Actions’ (CSAs) may be submitted by one or more legal entities established in a Member State or in an Associated Country.

Usually between € 6 and 10 million but varies from € 2 to >30 million.

Deadlines runs throughout the year.
