Cleaning standards and waste disposal

Cleaning standards

Since 2016 the Faculty of Arts has observed a set of cleaning standards whose purpose is to ensure the same standard of cleaning across the entire faculty, and to increase our focus on sustainable waste management.
These cleaning standards, which distinguish between offices and corridors/communal areas respectively, are explained below:

Offices

  • Accessible surfaces will be cleaned thoroughly once a week
  • Floors will be washed once a week

In other words, the faculty’s cleaning staff do not empty waste disposal bins or remove resistant marks on surfaces and floors.

Corridors and communal areas

Corridors above the first floor

  • Waste will be removed once a week
  • Accessible surfaces will be cleaned thoroughly once a week
  • Floors will be washed once a week

Corridors on the first floor will be cleaned three times a week.

Toilets, kitchens, classrooms and meeting rooms will be cleaned once a day.

Cleaning priorities will be made based on the activities and events that take place in the buildings concerned, situations arising owing to the weather, and the staffing situation on any particular day.

Waste disposal

At the Faculty of Arts we aim to dispose of our waste in a sustainable manner. So we ask our staff to dispose of their waste as follows:

  • Residual waste (perishables, plastic etc.) should be placed in the kitchen waste bins
  • Glass/bottles should be placed in a glass disposal box
  • Paper (for recycling) should be placed in the printer/photocopy room or waste disposal room

The waste bins in the offices have one compartment for paper, and one compartment for other waste/residual waste. Please place residual waste in plastic bags, which can be disposed of in the kitchen. Place paper in paper sacks. These sacks can be found in the waste disposal rooms. When they are full, paper sacks can be taken to the following disposal points:

  • Building A, 131: in the waste disposal room
  • Building A, 2nd floor: in the cage trolley (this trolley will be there from Monday afternoon until Tuesday after 10:30, when it will be emptied)
  • Building B, 118: in the waste disposal room
  • Building C, 001: on the staircase landing
  • Building D, 101: in the waste disposal room
