Create a project

When you log on to SIF, you are automatically sent to project management

NB. SIF keeps data sets stricly isolated according to their root project, so if you have more than one set, you need to consider carefully how to structure your data.

When you log in to a SIF project, you start in Files. As a new user your first task is to create a project. The Get started with SIF shows you how to create, share, and access a project.

Create a project

You can manage and open your projects from the SIF project management page.

If your project contains GDPR-data, you must register it with the AU Record before creating a project in SIF. You can read more about the Record here: link.

Click the 'Create Project' tab to create a project. You will now be prompted to indicate what type of research data your project contains: personal data or general sensitive data.

If your project contains personal data, choose Record Number and enter your serial number from the AU Record.

If your project does not contain personal data, choose General Sensitive Data, and click Create.

Accept project invite

If you don't own the SIF data, but are collaborating with the formal owner, you will most likely have received an invitation to participate in a project. Open the Accept invitation tab, click Accept project invitation, choose the project from the drop-down menu, and click Accept to get access.

Once you've got access to a project, you can open it from the Access project tab by picking the project from the drop-down menu and clicking Login. This will take you to the project Files page.

Manage a project

SIF has automatic integrated data sharing within the individual project, with a great degree of transparency. In other words, all participants in a SIF project automatically share all that project's folders. Therefore, you should carefully consider how you structure your data on SIF, especially when you create projects, but also if or when you invite other users to join your project. Otherwise, you will not be able to ensure that you give them access only to the data they need and to which they have permission.
