In the event of an acute threat to life and property, the Switchboard may be involved in several ways. If the Switchboard is contacted by an employee or directly by the public emergency services, the emergency response is initiated by calling AU’s emergency phone number 8715 1617.
In all emergency situations, it is the intention that the Switchboard must be informed by the emergency duty officer and by the relevant head of building services if possible. The switchboard function which is contacted first must inform the other switchboard functions.

Confirmation calls: If the Switchboard is contacted by the public emergency services, a confirmation call is made. Call the public emergency service’s switchboard (main number) and ask for a named individual.
Calls from emergency duty officers or others: When the call from the technical personnel is taken as required by the telephone chain, the emergency phone number will have already been called, and the task is to inform the other switchboard functions.
