Get off to a good start with your new computer

This guide will help you get off to a good start with your new computer. How you start up your new computer for the first time depends on whether your new computer is a Mac or a PC. So start by following the start-up directions for the type of machine you have. The rest of the guide applies to both Mac and PC.

Starting your new PC for the first time

The first time you sign in to your AU account on your new PC:

The first time you sign in to your AU account on your new PC, it must be connected to AU’s network with a network cable, either in your office or at the help desk. You can’t sign in unless you’re on AU’s network. Network adapters are not included as standard accessories with laptops, but you can purchase them in the webshop here

If the default user displayed on the sign-in screen is not you (for example, ‘Administrator’) select ‘Other user’ in the bottom left-hand corner. Sign in with your AU ID (auxxxxx) and your PC password. If you’re a new employee, you’ll find your AU ID in the welcome mail sent to your private email address. If you haven’t created a password yet, you’ll also find a guide in the welcome mail.

The first time you sign in, you’ll be prompted to select a display language, Danish or English. Select your preferred language, and then restart your PC before starting any other programs.

Starting your new Mac for the first time

The first time you sign in to your AU account on your new Mac:

The first time you sign in to your AU account on your new Mac, it must be connected to AU’s network with a network cable, either in your office or at the help desk. You can’t sign in unless you’re on AU’s network. Network adapters are not included as standard accessories with Mac laptops, but you can purchase them in the webshop here

The first time you sign in, you’ll see a sign-in prompt. Sign in with the password ‘nosecret’.

Then you’ll be prompted to sign in with a username and password by NoMAD. Sign in with your UNI username, which is your AU ID (auxxxxx), and your AU password (the same one you use for email).

Once NoMAD has approved your UNI username and password you’ll be prompted to sign in again. This is because the local password for your Mac doesn’t match the UNI domain.

Key in ‘nosecret’ when it asks you for ‘password for your Mac’.

Then NoMAD will synchronise the local password with the UNI domain, and the ‘nosecret’ password will no longer be valid.
